Yet God intervened in both circumstances to show men the impotence of their mortal power and the futility of their self-worship. But Jesus endured the full fury of man’s hatred because His purpose wasn’t merely to overcome lions, but the power of Death itself.

Many preachers are fond of saying, “Jesus was God” in order to add inarguable authority to the doctrines of Christianity. But this is not helpful to the unsaved or the new believer; it presents more problems than it solves. Obvious questions arise: “Did God gestate Himself in Mary’s womb?” “Was God praying to Himself through Jesus lips?” “Did God commit suicide on the cross?”

A fishing net takes time to weave and knot together. It must be folded and stowed just so. But a fishing net is a worthless jumble of cords unless it is cast out into the deep. Only when it is cast out can it accomplish its purpose. When our Father “casts us out” into the realm of discovery, be patient. Take advantage of the silence; there’s purpose in it.
